Karla Marxis the First Comrade of Your Heart! Karla is the mother of the Marx Werk Ware Haus, a board member of Cabaret Calgary, and performs drag, burlesque, and stand-up comedy across Canada and the world. She has hosted or performed at the Amsterdam Burlesque Festival, the Hollywood Burlesque Festival, the Winnipeg International Burlesque Festival, the Kootenay Burlesque Festival, and hosted the First Japanese International Burlesque Festival in Kobe, Japan in November 2024. Karla was voted Best Host by Imperial Burlesque Canada in 2022 and 2024, placed second in the Draglesque category, and won Most Comedic Burlesque in 2023 and 2024. She has two comedy albums on Spotify and Apple Music, Fruity (2025) and Well Okay Then (2023). She was featured in Comedy Invasion, a comedy TV showcase available on Tubi and Amazon Prime (US). She also performed at the Alaska B4UDIE Comedy Festival in 2024
The Tornado of Tease, Bitch Sassidy(she/they) is a burlesque performer, producer, choreographer, instructor, and entrepreneur renowned throughout western Canada. Raised in the Canadian prairies and currently based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB), Bitch has built a prolific career on her dynamic stage presence, rebellious nature, and counterculture aesthetic. Co-founder and artistic director of The Cabaret Company (formerly Cabaret Calgary, named one of Imperial Burlesque Canada's Top 3 Cabaret Production Companies in 2022 and 2023, winning the top spot in 2024), their work as a producer, choreographer, and performer has been enjoyed throughout the prairie provinces and interior BC. Prior to her work with The Cabaret Company, Bitch was a distinguished member of Alberta’s neo-burlesque troupe, Peppurmint Parlour. She is also the founder of Calgary’s premiere boylesque troupe, The Jock Strips, and a regular instructor of Cabaret Laboratory (“Cab Lab”) classes and workshops. Bitch’s involvement in the burlesque community has given her the opportunity to perform across the globe, gracing stages from Vancouver to Berlin, Black Rock to Ibiza, Amsterdam to the UK, Japan and beyond. Her playful, yet powerful numbers have placed her in Imperial Burlesque Canada's Top 5 Burlesque Performers two years in a row (2022 and 2023), with the #1 spot given to them in 2024. She has been featured in Smitten Kitten Pinup Magazine (2024), Burlesque Magazine (2024), and her accessory company, Pew Pew Pasties & Headpieces, was showcased in Fashion Magazine Canada (2022). When they’re not dazzling audiences as Bitch Sassidy, you can find Bitch breaking hearts and lip-syncing for their life as King Smokey Waters, winner of Eat North’s Sashay, Fillet! (2023) and the illustrious title of “Monster of the Year” at Peaches Christ’s Monster Ball (2022).
Workshops will be held on Sunday, July 13th at theMarie Steffan School of Dance,Mount Pearl (882 Topsail Road). The Drag workshop will be from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the Burlesque workshop from 1:30PM to 3:30 PM.
Both workshops are FREE and just require registration below. Maximum of 10 participants per workshop.
